Why We Created It
As an educator, I’ve experienced firsthand how much students mean to their teachers—and how quickly a school year passes. You watch with awe as students learn, grow, experience successes, make mistakes, overcome challenges, discover their strengths, and become more confident in who they are. Teachers become part of a child’s story in ways that often extend far beyond the classroom.
Now, as a mom, I see that relationship from the other side. I see the joy in my own children’s eyes as they play, laugh, sing, dance, discover something new, or proudly share something they’ve learned. I see the teachers who encourage them, celebrate their successes, help them through hard days, and spend an entire school year investing in who they are becoming.
And I’ve realized something: their teachers have a front-row seat to a year of my child’s life.
They see things I may not always see. They witness the friendships, the little victories, the growing confidence, the funny moments, the challenges overcome, and the everyday pieces of my child that make them who they are in that season. I want to remember my children not only through my own eyes, but through the eyes of the people who spent a year teaching them, knowing them, and cheering them on.
Since I began my career in education, I’ve seen—and have occasionally been asked to complete—end-of-year keepsakes where families give teachers a popular children’s book and ask them to write a special note inside. It’s a beautiful idea, but that open-ended page can sometimes feel harder than expected.
What do I write? What would be meaningful? How do I capture this child in just a few words?
That’s where Teacher Through the Years began.
These cards were designed with thoughtful prompts to help draw out the memories, strengths, and encouragement that families will actually want to read years from now—without making the process feel like another assignment for a busy teacher.
Each card provides just enough direction to spark meaningful reflection while leaving plenty of room for a teacher’s own voice, stories, and memories. The back of each card is intentionally left open for additional thoughts, a favorite story, a special keepsake, or even a short note from the family.
Because one day, I want to look back at my children’s school years and remember not only who they were, but how the people who knew them best during those years saw them, too.
Start Small. Build Something Meaningful.
This digital edition is an easy and affordable way to begin the tradition. Simply print a card for your child’s teacher, invite them to complete it at the end of the school year, and tuck it away with your child’s keepsakes.
Designed to print at 5" × 7" (A7), the cards are easy to print at home or through a local print shop and simple to preserve alongside your child’s other school memories.
Whether you’re starting with a Kindergarten–2nd Grade card or committing to all 13 years of teacher reflections, there’s an option to fit the way you want to build your collection.
One card at a time. One teacher at a time. You’re creating the beginnings of a graduation gift filled with words from the people who helped shape your child along the way.
